I attended a conference on ‘Oman as a Gravitational Centre in the Global Flyway Network of Migratory Shorebirds’ . This highlighted the importance of Oman’s coast for migratory birds through Oman in general and shorebirds in particular. The mud flats at Barr Al Hikman where we recently visited with tourists are an internationally important place.

Jens Erikson was a key speaker and as usual illustrated his talk with his own well known images.
Held in the Oman Studies Centre at Sultan Qaboos University it was well attended with an audience not only from Oman but from other regions forming part of the resource for the birds, including Saudi and many European Countries.
