Dhows and Gazelles in Dhofar

It was a nice surprise to see the familiar face of Allesandro near Salalah.
He had previously worked on the Jewel of Muscat which sailed from Muscat to Singapore.

Wadi Darbat Waterfall on a Tour

The heavy rain fell just after we arrived into Salalah after our 2 week Oman tour from Muscat.  We had intended to camp in the desert but Badar decided that a comfortable, dry hotel would be better for our tourists.

High above the plain of Salalah where the Coconut groves are is the location of the tomb of the Prophet Job as his story for the local people is that a spring of water  was created just for him.

The Well of Birds ‘Tawi Attair’ is also high in the mountains. This is full of the sound of birds as at its base is a perminant supply of water.

Geodes of Oman and Ubar

With a cyclone bearing down on Dhofars coast we curtailed our several day visit into the southern Empty Quarter to a single day and then a ‘dash’ into unexpected hotel accommodation in Salalah.  Since the UNESCO site at Shisr was close to the route into the Rub al Khali we paid a visit to the site that is claimed to be that of the legendary Ubar .

Despite the heavy clouds we were still able to travel into Oman’s southern Empty Quarter and visit the mega dunes at Hashman where some of the crystal Geodes of Oman can be found.
